Diamox (Acetazolamide) for Intracranial Hypertension
Dosing
- Starting Dose: 15-25 mg/kg/day (divide BID to TID)
- May be increased up to 100 mg/kg/day
- Not to exceed 2g/day
- May divide into BID or TID dosing
Side Effects
- GI Upset
- Metallic taste
- SJS
- Renal stones
- Sickle cell crisis
- SULFA allergy cross-reactivity
- Aplastic anemia (idiosyncratic)
- Decreased platelets
- Hypokalemia / metabolic acidosis
- Numbness / tingling fingers-toes-perioral
Additional Side Effects in Children
- Decreased feeding
- Wight loss
- Lethargy
Contraindications
- Sulfa allergy
- Renal or liver disease
