Thygeson Superficial Punctate Keratitis

  • Photophobia, tearing, burning, foreign body sensation
  • Blurred vision
  • Chronic and recurrent, usually bilateral but may be asymmetric
  • Small elevated oval corneal intraepithelial, white-gray opacities extend along entire corneal surface
  • mild conjunctival injection but may be absent
  • mild mucoid discharge possible
  • no association to systemic disease.

Etiology

  • Adenovirus, herpes simplex virus, and varicella zoster virus, have all been implicated but not proven
